Boston Cream Pie

Despite the name it's a cake: two tender layers of hot-milk vanilla sponge sandwiching a thick, silky vanilla pastry cream, crowned with a glossy chocolate ganache glaze. It's the official dessert of Massachusetts, invented at Boston's Parker House hotel in the 1800s.
